The Pennsylvania Institute for Conservation Education is an organization focused on empowering youth to become ambassadors for wildlife conservation. Their outstanding leadership academy offers a year round program that focuses on teaching wildlife biology, conservation methods and leadership skills. Youth involved in the program receive mentoring from biologists, educators, and other professionals who are dedicated to sustaining a legacy of care, love, and appreciation for wildlife.

Do you wish to empower youth and become a positive role model? Become a program assistant! Participate in outreach activities in schools, manage social media, and coordinate the organization’s volunteering projects. Be a part of the effort to sustain wildlife legacy through new generations and gain valuable work experience while supporting your community. If interested, contact the Office of Civic Engagement’s work-study representative Jose Figueroa at jjf022@bucknell.edu  to verify your work-study funds and to receive application information.

Who is Flat Bucky?

The Office of Civic Engagement would like to introduce you to our newest member. Flat Bucky is based off the children’s book Flat Stanley and the Flat Stanley Project. In the book Stanley is “flattened” when his bulletin board falls on him and then his parents mail him around the world in an envelope. School children have mailed Flat Stanley’s to their friends and family and have gotten to see him travel around the world in photographs.

With the appearance of Flat Bucky we hope to increase the visibility of service work and civic engagement and to celebrate the great work Bucknellians are doing in Lewisburg and around the world. We hope to show the depth and breadth of what Bucknellians are doing in their communities.

The Office of Civic Engagement would like any Bucknellians who are doing service to take Flat Bucky with them and take their photo and send it into us at flatbucky@bucknell.edu. We will then put appropriate photos on our Facebook page and website.
